LASIK Insurance
INSURANCE:
Seibel Vision Surgery will be glad to process all private insurance and Medicare claims for you.
LASIK is considered an elective procedure. Most insurance companies in the United States and Canada will not cover the cost, nor will Medicare usually cover it.
However, your health or vision plan may offer reduced fees for LASIK. Vision Service Plan (VSP), Davis, Lovelace, Cigna, TLC, EyeMed, Spectra, Vision 1, Coast to Coast, Aetna, Superior Vision and ColeManaged Vision are among the plans that offer benefits for LASIK. Please inquire about pricing for these plans if you are a member.

FLEX PLANS:
In some cases, the cost of the procedure may be covered by medical Flex plans or medical Cafeteria plans that allow pretax dollars to be set aside for medical expenses.
Several companies in the United States are now covering LASIK for their employees, to an extent. Check with your employer to see if they offer this type of benefit.

TAX BENEFITS:
Moreover, it is possible that the cost of LASIK may be tax deductible, according to the Internal Revenue Service. The current law states that taxpayers with medical expenses that total more than 7.5% of their annual incomes can deduct those costs if they itemize, according to the Dow Jones Newswire. Because the procedure “meaningfully promotes the proper function of the body,” LASIK qualifies as medical expense that can be deducted, the IRS said.
The IRS also said any out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs and insulin qualify as deductible medical expenses. The IRS discussed the tax treatment of medical expenses in revenue rulings 2003-57 and 2003-58. They will be published in the Internal Revenue Service bulletin dated June 2. The rulings and the bulletin can be found on the IRS Web site.
